Bomb kills Army medic in Iraq

Associated Press

PENDLETON, Ore. — An Army medic from Pendleton was killed in Iraq this week, one of five soldiers who died in a roadside bombing.

Pfc. Ryan Walker, who turned 25 on Dec. 30, had been in Iraq for a year and was due to come home this year. On Thursday, he was one of five soldiers killed in an attack on their Humvee south of the Iraqi city Karbala.

Walker was the son of Randy Walker of Pendleton and Louise Walker of Hermiston. Walker’s father described the Pendleton High School graduate as a “friendly kid who didn’t have an enemy in the world.”

The medic earned a Purple Heart in April after being shot in the leg. The East Oregonian said he’d been grazed by a bullet while rushing to help soldiers hit by a car bomb in Baghdad.

A wave of post election violence in Iraq has added to military and civilian casualties. On Thursday, 11 U.S. military members died, the most...

Ryan Walker was a great human being an I had the Honor to serve with him and have him ride in one of my vehicles while patroling the rough cities of Iraq during our deployment. Since I met Ryan, he always carried himslef in such a positive way you'd always ended up smiling and sharing his enthusuasm wheter it was studying for a promotion board, working out at the gym, or sharing some laughs in the AID Station with the other medics.

For some reason everythime He was in our convoy we felt if something would happened that He would save us and would let us die, and thats exactly how everyone in 1-76 FA felt until the tragic day in Jan 5th, 2006. He told us that he would stay back and go out on patrol until the last fellow Patriot was relieved from our tour, and He carried out his promise, as he got out of the HMMWV to rescue SGT Jason Lopez after an explosive device exploded next to his vehicle. May Him Rest In peace and the Mighty Lord bless and comfort his family. Ryan will never be forgotten and there will always be a flag flown for him at the Heroes walk @ ft. Stewart.

always in my heart and thoughts:

Your sacrifice will remain in our hearts for a lifetime,

with intense gratitude. May God bless you and your family.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms.

We cherish too, the Poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heros never dies.

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on Your departed veteran who gave his life in the service of his country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of Your Son he may share in the joy of Your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in You with Your saints forever.

I ask this through Christ our Lord

My sincere heartfelt condolences to Ryan's family.

Jose Ricardo Flores-Mejia

It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... "Never Forgotten"

Frank E. Adamski III

To the family of Frank Adamski, including his wife and daughter, my sincere condolences. I plan to make sure he is never forgotten.

Laurie Cobb

She was my 3rd and 5th grade teacher. Today I'm 32 and still think about her. She was the best teacher ever. From her hair children stories to her bubbly happiness and kindness she spread. I'll never forget her. She was the teacher who had lunch with the kids in her classroom so everyone had someone to be with. She made my school experience amazing. I will never forget her.. I love you Mrs. Cobb. Sincerely, Forever in my thoughts, Alyssa (Viau) Capone

Larry E Polley Jr

SPC Polley died almost two decades ago so I don't know if this message will be seen. In honor of Memorial Day, my agency hands out cards with names of those who have fallen. This year, 2023, I received the card for SPC Polley and was inspired to look up more on him. I am thankful for his service and sacrifice. My condolences to his family. He is not forgotten.

Paul C. Holter III

Money comes and go so it's not worth losing you.

James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
