From: Cannon City, Colo.
Assigned to 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.
Incident: Army Sgt. Thomas F. Broomhead was killed by enemy fire in Fallujah, Iraq, May 27.
Died: May 27, 2003

Broomhead was on guard at a checkpoint when a vehicle pulled up and assailants fired on him.

Thomas F. Broomhead was born in Ohio and raised in Fort Myers, Fla. He joined the Marines out of high school in 1989. He left the service briefly and re-enlisted in the Army a few years later in the hopes of becoming a helicopter pilot. He also served in the Gulf War.

�He liked it a lot,� said his wife, Kelli Broomhead. �He was in it for the long haul.�

Broomhead was killed May 27 when Iraqis opened fire at a checkpoint in Fallujah. �He was supposed to be there as a peacekeeper,� said Jim Carter, his brother-in-law and close friend. Broomhead also left three sons, ages 7, 9 and...

Phil worked for me when he volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the Joint Contracting Command. He was a great officer, a great friend and an incredible husband/father. He was just a couple of days away from returning from his deployment. I received an email from him on 5 April requesting to stay a bit longer so he could finish the job started. I had not yet responded to his email when I was notified by our Commanding Office on Easter morning that Phil had been killed. Miss you Phil!

hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. Chris was a strong minded person and looked out for other. He was kind and friendly the he made friends with everyone. Chris was truly a great man!
