Vancouver Marine killed in Iraq bomb attack

SEATTLE � A Marine reservist from Vancouver, Wash., who volunteered for a second tour of duty has been killed in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq.

Staff Sgt. David Ries, 29, died Monday when the vehicle he was in struck an improvised explosive device. Marine officials said Tuesday that Ries had been part of a convoy traveling west of Fallujah, an insurgent stronghold that is under siege by U.S. forces.

Ries was an electrician with the 6th Engineer Support Battalion at the Marine Corp Reserve Center in Portland, Ore. The unit is attached to the 1st Force Service Support Group based at Camp Pendelton, Calif. Ries provided mobile power and water services to Marines in the field, Lt. Col. Pete Ramey said Tuesday.

	I served with Sgt Reis in Portland, I have never in my life seen a Marine that was more squared away then Reis. I joined the Marine Corps at 25 then reported to 6th esb after boot and mct then school. Reported to my unit, sometime later Reis joined our unit after leaving active duty. Sgt Reis prepared Marines for combat with his mentality and his work ethic. If there were any questions while working on a piece of equipment Reis was our go to man. So as we passed the 8th of nov we must all remember the great things he did for fellow Marines, the country, and his fellow Americans. I have many great stories about Sgt Reis, I will always hold them close to my heart. Semper Fi Brother, we continue to carry out your dream while you watch over us.

hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
