OKLAHOMA CITY Heavy fighting in Iraq has claimed the lives of two soldiers, one from Oklahoma City, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed Monday.
Sgt. Carl W. Lee, 23, died Sunday in Ramadi, Iraq. His unit was conducting a dismounted patrol when it encountered enemy forces using small-arms fire, the Defense Department said in a news release on its Web site.
He was shot in the upper torso and head, defense officials and family members said.
Lee and Staff Sgt. Michael B. Shackelford, 25, of Grand Junction, Colo., were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division out of Camp Howze, Korea, officials...

BY Anonymous on Feb 27, 2014 | |  | Just had a bad dream about what happened to you, Schakelford and Benish that day. I have a lot of them. And it always has that video game you and me were playing, that we paused when we left out for that mission. And It always plays out slightly different. But this time was true to history. I came back from the mission, the game was still paused. That's what made me break down that day. Not seeing what happened to you within two feet. Not the specifics that are nobody's business but your family's. But the paused game. But the dreams are okay. Because I get to see all of you again. Alive and well, for as long as my bad dream lasts. And that's fine by me. I welcome the dreams for that reason. Just wanted to talk to you I. A different way I guess. -T.
