The Associated Press
CARSON, Calif. Teen soldier David Toomalatai joined the Army to provide a future for his girlfriend and then-unborn son. Less than three months after arriving in Iraq, the medic was killed by a roadside bomb.
Toomalatai, 19, decided he needed a full-time job and tuition to eventually go to college to become a physicians assistant, said Daniela Perera, the mother of his 10-month-old son Damien.
The Army private wasnt troubled about going off to war.
He wasnt worried, Perera said. I kept telling him, Dont go. He said, Its going to be good in the long run. When I come back, it will be all good. Im going to school.

May David R.I.P. he was a great person and an awesome friend. I went to school with him and I still can't believe he is gone. He shouldn;t have gone he should still be here on this earth realizing his dreams. He was dedicated to his academics and to football. He was an amazing person and I wish I could have talked to him before he left us. I missed joking with him about his football and my soccer sport. He was so funny and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. R.I.P David Toomalati Class of 05'!!!
