Incident: Marine Sgt. Travis D. Pfister died Feb. 7 when the helicopter he was flying in crashed while supporting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. Also killed were 1st Lt. Jared M. Landaker, Capt. Jennifer J. Harris, Cpl. Thomas E. Saba, Sgt. James R. Tijerina, Navy Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Gilbert Minjares Jr. and Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Manuel A. Ruiz.

DoD names Marines killed in CH-46 crash

Defense officials announced Monday the names of five Marines killed when the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter they were in crashed in western Iraq.

The Feb. 7 crash, which is still under investigation, was the fifth such incident to occur in Iraq in less than a month.

Capt Jennifer J. Harris, 1st Lt. Jared M. Landaker, Sgts. Travis D. Pfister and James R. Tijerina, and Cpl. Thomas E. Saba died when their helicopter went down near Fallujah in Anbar province.

All of the leathernecks except Saba were assigned to Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364. Saba was assigned to Okinawa, Japan-based Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262.

Two Navy corpsmen were also killed in the crash, according to the Defense Department: Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Gilbert Minjares Jr. of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point,...

You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. Chris was a strong minded person and looked out for other. He was kind and friendly the he made friends with everyone. Chris was truly a great man! I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
