COLVILLE, Wash. — Spc. Ryan Bell joined the Army hoping to eventually become a doctor. That dream was cut short this week when a bomb exploded near the Fort Bragg paratrooper’s vehicle in Iraq, killing him and five other soldiers.
The 21-year-old from Colville attended the Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga. He graduated in 2003 and had many college scholarship offers, said his father, Michael Bell of Colville. Instead, the younger Bell decided to join the Army, hoping his training and GI bill would help him become a doctor.
“There’s no regrets at this end,” Michael Bell said. “He was a responsible young man, he was sensible, he knew what he wanted to do with his life.”

Dear Ryan,Veterans Day was very painful. I got through it but it was very difficult. You gave the ultimate gift to your country, You sacrificed your very life. You came home a Hero with lots of decorations and a lot of honor. On March 5, 2007 seven noble soldiers were killed when they were bombed by a roadside device. God Bless Ryan, Justin R., Justin E., Rob, Andrew, Joshua and Cory. God Bless all of the families . Heaven is a better place with these fine young men in it.

Dear Ryan Michael Bell, I almost died of a broken heart when the Army came to tell me you were killed in action. These days I live to try and mend my broken heart. It will never be fully mended. I will never get over the loss of you. I miss you more than words can say. I am so very proud of you. You were very noble and very brave in this life.
