Assigned to the 1451st Transportation Company, 13th Support Command, Iraq.
Incident: Army Sgt. Joshua A. Schmit died April 14 in Fallujah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed was Sgt. Brandon L. Wallace.

WILLMAR, Minn. Army Sgt. Joshua Schmits Humvee had hit roadside bombs three times since last May and hed escaped without injury. Schmits luck ended April 14, when the Humvee he was commanding hit another bomb in Iraq.

Schmit, 26, of Willmar, was killed by that fourth bomb, his family said. He was the son of Kim and Greg Schmit of Willmar.

The family hadnt received other details about his death and didnt know when his body would be shipped home.

Schmit died just 10 days before he was scheduled to leave Iraq, rejoin his wife, Andrea, in Germany, then move back to the U.S., his father said.

The family was notified around 2 a.m. April 14 by Schmits...

  My precious son, I am forever lost without the sound of your voice and the touch of your hand! What a cruel joke! You only had 10 days left in hell, you saw the end of your god-awful tour coming. Your military contract would have been fullfilled and you were sooooo ready to get on with life and face your future with your new bride:) Then you blinked your eyes and found yourself in heaven!! I know you were pissed-as-hell! Now, it is almost two years since that horrible moment. I know now you probably would not leave for nothing! Save me a seat buddy! I can hardly wait to be with you!! Forever in my Heart - MOM

It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
