Incident: Army Sgt. 1st Class Ronald T. Wood was killed July 16 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Kirkuk, Iraq.

DRAPER, Utah � One Utah soldier was killed and two others were wounded when their Humvee was struck by a roadside bomb in Kirkuk, Iraq, the Utah National Guard said.

Sgt. 1st Class Ronald T. Wood of Cedar City died Saturday and Sgt. Christopher L. Olsen of Logan and Spc. Eric J. Lund of Providence were treated for shrapnel wounds.

Their vehicle was struck by the �improvised explosive device� at about 4 p.m. Iraq time.

Lund had wounds to the back of his head, his back, and legs. His leg was broken in three places. His wife said he underwent surgery and was in good spirits. He was to be transported to a medical facility in Germany for further medical treatment.

Olsen suffered cuts and bruises and had shrapnel wounds in his left leg. His wife said he underwent surgery to remove the shrapnel and was doing well.

All three were members of the Guard�s Bravo...

Ron was my brother-in-law, but in my heart, he was my brother. Ron was truly the nicest guy in the world who would've done anything for anyone at anytime without questions or complaints. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike. Ron had a profound effect on my family and I know we are all better people for having known Ron and for being able to call him "family" for six years. He will never be forgotten and is a true hero to all of us. He was a fantastic friend, brother and a great uncle to my children. And Ron gave the best hugs, ever!

WE ALL LOVE AND MISS YOU, OUR DEAR SWEET GENTLE GIANT!!!!!

You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. Chris was a strong minded person and looked out for other. He was kind and friendly the he made friends with everyone. Chris was truly a great man! James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
