OKLAHOMA CITY — A Marine reservist with Oklahoma ties was among six enlisted men killed Monday in a firefight with insurgents west of Baghdad, the Defense Department has confirmed.
Lance Cpl. Roger Dale Castleberry Jr., 26, of Cedar Park, Texas, was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve’s 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, based in San Antonio. However, he was attached to a reserve unit from Ohio when he was killed.
Several of Castleberry’s relatives, including his stepmother and father, Deborah and Roger Dale Castleberry Sr., live in Durant. Castleberry also left behind his wife, who lives in Cedar Park.

Thank-you Dale for your sacrifice. I know your mother was waiting for you on the other side.
I think I'm looking for his brother Don to tell him that my daughter Lori is also with them. She passed away in September 2003 and we haven't talked to him since January of that year. If you know him please have him call. We are in the same place but the number has changed but we're in the book. Lori also has a memorial site on Facebook. God Bless us all.

Deborah is not Dale's mother. His mother also faught a very brave battle against breast cancer loosing her fight in 1999. Gaye Castleberry and Dale Sr. raised this wonderful and very brave young man together. Now, Gaye is with her loving son once again.

Hello. I'm a Marine with 3/25. I was wounded and sent home a few months ago from iraq, but I had the distinct pleasure and honor of serving with Castleberry. I met him in 29 Palms during the work up, and talked to him quite a bit. When we got to Kuwait, I was up his butt all the time asking him questions about Iraq and Kuwait, as this was his second deployment to Iraq. He sat down with me and answered all my silly questions and taught me a lot about what I was getting into. He was patient and intelligent, and he left a lasting impression on me as a caring individual, and a professional. I admired and respected him, and I am very very sorry I wont be able to thank him in person. God bless Castleberry, and his family. LCpl. McGill, 3/25
