Incident: Army Pfc. Bruce C. Salazar Jr. died July 6 in Muhammad Sath, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Cpl. Kory D. Wiens.

Former Fayetteville resident dies while serving in Iraq

TRACY, Calif. A soldier who previously lived in Fayetteville, Ark., and had dreamed of defending his country since childhood died in Iraq when he was hit by an explosive, the Defense Department and his relatives said July 10.

Pfc. Bruce C. Salazar Jr., 24, of Tracy died July 6 in the town of Muhammad Sath. He had been stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga., before his 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, deployed to Iraq on May 11.

Salazars mother said her son had always wanted to join the armed forces, although at times he disagreed with the United States policy in Iraq.

  Rest easy Soldier, your duty is now done.

You gave all you had to give. Not for God nor Country, not mom's apple pie. You life you scaraficed, most will never know why. Those who knew you, ask God daily. Why him God, oh why. If I could only share wth them, what only we warriors know. Their chests would swell, their heads would be held high. Knowing that their son had given his life so that his buddy, his friend, his brother, would not have to make this sacrafice. Mom trust this total stranger, who writes to you now. There's only a few things that scare a Soldier more then his own demise. First on the list is having to say I'm sorry to his buddy's mom as they stand watching him being lowered down to sleep forever, tears flowing from both their eyes..

Since u were a little boy u were always one of the sweetest kids in the neighborhood. I will miss u dearly as will others. I will always remember ur laugh and that big smile. Rest in Peace u are now with our lord.

It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... "Never Forgotten"

James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
