Because Corry P. Tyler was the lone male survivor in the family, he wasn't required to return to Iraq but volunteered for a third tour anyway. "It speaks highly of his integrity," said Dr. William Warnock, his pastor. "I served in the service, and any person who volunteers _ they''re just special, just absolutely special people." Tyler, 29, of Woodbine, Ga., was killed Aug. 22 when his helicopter crashed in Multaka. He was assigned to Fort Lewis and was a 1999 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. When her husband died a year ago, Jennifer Tyler was grateful that Corry could take leave from the Army and come home from Iraq to be with her. "He got home, and he was strong for his mother," said a friend, Jeffrey Pace. Tyler is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Emily, 4; Jacob , 2; Lucas, 1. Asked if Tyler had always aspired to be in the Army, Pace said, "In my heart of hearts, I believe he did it because his daddy was in the military." Pace said he is proud of his best friend and grateful for his service. "He died giving me the right to stand on my front porch and to do whatever I want to do in this country," he said.
