FORT RILEY, Kan. — Spc. Rodney J. Johnson, 20, of Houston, died of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit Sept. 4 in Baghdad, the Army announced Sept. 5.
Johnson was a cavalry scout assigned to 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
He joined the Army in September 2005 and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in March 2006. This was his first deployment to Iraq.
To date, 127 Fort Riley Soldiers have been killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Additionally, one transition team airman was killed July 9 in Afghanistan.

Rodney ,you have touched so many our lifes, I may have not known you long enough for you to know what you have done in our family. You brought joy into my neices world an children of love to her heart. The day my lil girl met you she trusted you ,she dont do that with just anyone, so I knew you was a very special person indeed.
