SHARON, Pa. — A Marine from western Pennsylvania has been killed in Afghanistan.

Carol Wallace says her son, 25-year-old Sgt. David Wallace, of Sharpsville, was killed by an improvised explosive device on Tuesday in the Helmud Province.

The Department of Defense says 23-year-old Sgt. Trevor J. Johnson, 23, of Forsyth, Mont., was also killed. Both were assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Wallace says her son was a combat engineer whose duties included removing and exploding bombs, conducting searches, working on vehicles and construction projects.

  To the family of David W Wallace.I am a former Marine,my family and I would just like to say thank you for the sacrifice your husband,son ,and brother made.Thanks to him and the many others we are living in freedom.I was once told there only been two kinds of people willing to give there lives for us so we may live.One was Jesus Christ our Lord and savior,the other is our beloved men&women of our US militaries,our heroes,our protecters.May God bless them and your family.

  To the family of Dave, my husband and I have you in our prayers. Dave was a great friend and a great Marine. He is truly going to be missed by many. He will never be forgotten. It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
