MONTGOMERY, Texas � The mother and stepfather of a Ranger who died in Afghanistan during his third tour of duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom read a letter from the 21-year-old during his memorial service.

�We are here doing the dirty work, and we will continue that to the best we can, even if that means dying for your country,� Cpl. William M. �Bill� Amundson Jr. wrote to his family in March, before he was deployed for a mission overseas.

Michele Sanderson and her husband, Mark, read the letter to about 300 people gathered Tuesday at the memorial service to honor Amundson, who died Oct. 18.

Amundson wrote the letter before he was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He survived the mission, then was redeployed to Afghanistan. Amundson was killed when a vehicle he was in overturned.

	William I wear your band on my wrist and I pray for your family I have a son there again back in the Gan, Its no better now than it was the day you were taken from us. I just wish we could figure out how to stop the stupid mess we have gotten in. I will pray for your family all the days of my life

You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him.
