Incident: Army Cpl. Brad A. Davis died April 22 near Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

Sister recalls soldier’s sense of humor

CLEVELAND — Family members say they’ve learned that an Ohio soldier was killed by a roadside bomb this week while on his second tour in Iraq.

Relatives of 21-year-old Spc. Brad Davis says officers came to the family’s home in the Cleveland suburb of Garfield Heights Wednesday night to say Davis had died earlier that day.

His sister, Jennifer Gardner, says Davis planned to leave the military when his current deployment ended in December.

Davis was a 2006 graduate of Garfield Heights High School. Gardner says he was the type who was always there for you but he also had a prankster side.

The military had not made an official announcement of the death as of Friday. An Army spokesman said the practice was to wait 24 hours after all next of kin had been contacted.

	Brad you will be truely missed by all of your fellow paratroopers and the people like me who met you on post thru one of your fellow soldiers!! PLEASE BRAD, watch down over Angel, Baity, Brodie, Kamara, Schmidtt, Jeter, and all of your other brothers over there!!! They need guidance around terrible incedence that so unfortunately claimed your life!! You are up in Heaven with God and all of the little Angel's right now keeping an eye out over us all I know, but PLEASE, keep a better eye out for the brave men and women in Fco 2-505!! Love you man!!

You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... hello my name is Jesus Vega I would like to give my condolences to Christopher's family and friends, I served with him in Iraq and slept in the same quarters. I have many fond memories of him. I have never forgotten his sacrifice. I would like to share that the greatest memory I had of Chris is that he would speak highly of his mom and how much she meant to him. James David Parker

I knew James David Parker as "Dave" when he lived in Solon Ohio. We met when I moved into town from out of state. He and his group of friends were a year or two older than me. Dave was a bright beacon of hope and joy to me. I was an unsure young man in a strange place. Dave introduced me to many people and ensured his friends always saved me a seat in the lunchroom. I have fond memories of him and his friends during that time. I doubt so many people would have been as wonderful toward me without Dave's incredible kindness. I've never forgotten his kindness. I hope to be able to pay it forward someday.
