MIDLAND, Mich. &mdash The Pentagon has released details on the death of a 20-year-old U.S. Navy hospital corpsman from Midland who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department said July 14 that Seaman Aaron D. Ullom was on foot patrol in Helmand Province when he was killed July 12.
Ullom was part of a Marine unit out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. His remains were being flown July 14 to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
Ullom was a 2009 graduate of Midland High School and was on his first deployment to Afghanistan, where he arrived in February.
His family says he was on a training mission with Afghan troops when they came under fire from insurgents.
The website for Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors in Midland said funeral arrangements were incomplete as of July 14.
Remains of fallen Navy medic returned to Midland

MIDLAND, Mich. &mdash Midland residents have lined the streets of their central Michigan city to honor a 20-year-old Navy medic who was killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department says Seaman Aaron D. Ullom was on foot patrol in Helmand Province when he was killed July 12. He was part of a unit out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The Midland Daily News says a plane carrying Ullom's body from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware arrived Tuesday afternoon at MBS International Airport.
Residents waved American flags as a hearse carrying Ullom's coffin traveled to Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home.
Visitation is scheduled Wednesday through Friday. Ullom's funeral is Friday at Midland Evangelical Free Church, with graveside burial rites at the Midland Cemetery.
Ullom was a 2009 Midland High School graduate.
