| I pray still for the family of Peaches and will forever. What a light made dark too soon. I pray that we always remember every time the memorial for 911 comes around that men like Eugene lived to help others, to save them, and that is what he was doing the day he died. I did not know him, I chose his name from a hat at a school prayer service, and his story and family touched me deeply. I hope that they were able to raise a statue for him in Oregon that was planned. I'd love to go visit someday, as well as the 911 memorial in NYC. God Bless you Eugene and all your family and friends. Michelle Engelman Berns be_art_smart@msn.com Long Beach, CA Post A Condolence Light A Candle Here |

I worked with Erica on the development of an educational CD ROM on cross-cultural issues for business travellers for Park Li and Unitel in 97. I've rarely worked with someone who had such a magnificent mix of creativity, analytical power and follow-through. Although her credit was for production, I saw her suggest stunning visual ideas which the art director ran with, clear logical sequences that the interactive designer built into the structure, beautiful writing that I incorporated, thoughtful explanations of Hofstede's theories of cross-cultural issues that the subject experts accepted, and to top off her work of art, her deep beautiful voice as narrator. As long as you could keep up with her mind, Erica was a delight to work with. As I read her portrait in the NY Times and was overwhelmed by thoughts of what her last moments must have been like, I could hear her theater-trained voice with its British accent and soft flowing tones in my mind. She was saying, oh, don't think so much about my pain - of course I'd have preferred to stay longer on the planet, but I'm free now, and you have to admit it was quite an adventure.

Michael was a true friend. He would always find the time to chat with you, or just listen if you just needed an ear. He gave encouragement and support to those he loved and even some he did not even know. Michael was a brilliant light in this world, brightening our lives by his very presence. He will be remembered for his rare and unwavering light and for his open and sincere heart. We are all blessed who got to know him and share our lives with him.
