WASILLA, Alaska — A Fort Richardson paratrooper killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq treasured his two young daughters.
“His children were his life,” Amber Brevard said March 19, shortly after the Army announced the death of her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Brevard, 31.
He was killed by a roadside bomb March 16 in Baghdad. Gov. Sarah Palin ordered state flags be lowered to half-staff next week in his honor.
Amber Brevard, 35, said her husband was a fun-loving man, an avid outdoorsman and an expert handyman who rebuilt two VW Beetles.
She described her husband as a daredevil who loved motorcycles, skydiving, four-wheeling and snowmobiling.
“He was very adventurous,” she said. “He never liked to sit still.”
But above all, he was a father who treasured his two daughters, Emily, 9, and Jessica, 7, she said.

Christopher, two years have passed since your death and we are still very heavy of heart for you. Your two little girls sleep with a stuffed figure of you every night. Your oldest girl still cries off and on because you have been gone so long. We try to lighten the load by telling the very funny things you did while here on earth and we talk about how brave you were, both here and overseas. You are loved forever and will never be fortotten. I just can't tell you how you are missed. I came to Alaska because you wanted us to move up here. Dear Grandson, we made it here but you did not. Still, your very presence is in almost everything we see and do here because you loved it here so much. We all wish you could have made it home. My big regret is that we could not help you get back here. If we could only hug you once again. We will have to make due with your love at the end of each e-mail, which you never failed to send. We send our love right back to you now and forever. Your Loving Memaw

For my Dear Nephew and his family,Little Chris as you were always referred as, I may have not been there with you, but you were and always will be in my heart. I saw pictures of you beautiful family. They have lost the most in this crazy war. But I know that they are proud of you, as I am. You are my hero. I love you and hope to meet your girls someday. Your mom and dad raised a fantastic man. This world will not be same without you here to brighten it. See you again in heaven.
Love Aunt Jan
